CHERRIL KOLESIK: FAIRFIELD, CT ARTIST EXTRAORDINAIRE

Cherril Kolesik has always been an artist - in one form or another. Recently, she has combined each individual artistic endeavor to form a cohesive, multi-faceted design experience - Cherril Kolesik Artist Studios. It includes:

Faux Finishing / Decorative Painting

Cherril has had her own decorative painting business for over twenty years. During that time, she has had the pleasure of designing and creating environmental art including: glazing, trompe l’oeil, and a variety of treatments on floors walls, ceiling, & furniture (any surface that takes paint!) in many fine homes and businesses throughout Connecticut and the New York metropolitan area.

(Going) Green Design

In 2008 Cherril added new materials to her pallet; materials which are Green in character and that reflect a sensitivity and responsibility to our living planet. Her mission is to combine her expertise in art and aesthetics with a practical application for environmental consciousness.

Color Consulting

Since Color is such an integral part of faux finishing (and art in general), this artistic element needs to stand on its own. Cherril serves her clients as a Color Consultant: she goes into their own unique space and helps to select wall color which reflects an individuals’ own taste and style while working within the elements and restrictions of a room.

School of Faux Finishing

Cherril started her adult life as an art teacher, and she has woven that thread throughout her life in a variety of ways from: receiving a grant to work on a senior center mural, volunteering in the Arts In Action program in Fairfield public schools, and substituting as an art teacher on the high school level. It’s this natural life progression that has inspired her to form a school which allows her to pass-on her knowledge and the experiences of her career.

An Art Gallery in Fairfield

The Gallery Upstairs was formed after Cherril displayed her own artwork in the space formerly known as “the lobby”….of the building where she has her art studio! Her fellow tenants, along with the owner of the building, appreciated the idea of art being part of their surroundings. So they all got together, cleaned out the clutter and painted the space. Now, it’s enjoyed by everyone and is dedicated to artists, of different levels, within the town of Fairfield.

Her Own Fine Art Painting

Cherril started her fine art career seriously in 2005. It is directly influence by, and is an extension of, her decorative painting. Cherril employs two distinct styles: 1) Representative - which employs layers of colors over a solid base (much like glazing). Different sheens are paramount in this approach. 2) Backsplash – this is an approach in which the outer edge/spillover of sample boards done accumulate in color and material, making a cohesive whole. It’s a “history” of her work.
